American Memorial Cemetery – 2000 Avenue D, Grand Prairie.  East of Ave D, west of Hardy Rd., near Mountain Creek Lake Park.  On Mapsco.  Mapsco 51A.U [Frances visited with Charles Powers about 2000.  Big field at back kept tools in bldg. on one side burials are apparent, Charles Powers informant lives at CC Young.  P. Anderson Cemetery – 5924 Marina Dr., Garland.  Near shoreline of Lake Ray Hubbard, east of Rand Rd. & before lake bridge south of IH 30.  Maintained by descendants & fenced; apartment complex built over portion where African Americans were buried.  Historical Marker.  On Mapsco.– Mapsco 40A.B   *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

Axe Cemetery – a/k/a Fletcher Cemetery/Loudermilk Cemetery – Garland.  In alley between Carney Dr. and S. Glenbrook Dr.  Headstones hauled away, but bases remain.  Fletchers started Church of Christ nearby but at some point they were not interested.  City named it “Axe Cemetery.”  Not on Mapsco – Mapsco 29M  (DCPA Spring 2018 Newsletter Endangered List) 

Bailey Cemetery – a/k/a Cumby Cemetery/Webster Cemetery – S. Belt Line Rd. @ Fish Rd., Dallas (Southeast Dallas County).  The cemetery is to the west of S. Belt Line Rd.  Entry is/was south of the intersection of Fish Rd. & S. Belt Line Rd.  The fenced cemetery is/was visible from the street.  Small family cemetery on private property.  Not on Mapsco – Mapsco 70B  (DCPA Spring 2018 Newsletter Endangered List)  *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.    

Balch Springs Cemetery – a/k/a Community Cemetery/Dunbar Cemetery – at back of 2919 Balch Springs Rd., Balch Springs.  [Overlaps property line between 2 acres of land deeded in 1913 to trustees of Balch Springs Union Church by S. D. Lawrence (Dallas County Deed No. 1872/181, Filed 11/7/1934) that were tax foreclosed in 2012.  City of Balch Springs purchased in 2018 to add to 2 acres already owned by City of Balch Springs at 2919 Balch Springs Rd.  More info at Balch Springs Library.]  Grounds maintained by city.  TxDot  #127, Community Cemetery. Beaty Cemetery – a/k/a Old Oak Cliff Cemetery/Oak Cliff Cemetery – 1300 E. 8th St., Dallas.  (Landmark) Maintained by Oak Cliff Cemetery Association.  Oak Cliff Cemetery on Mapsco – Mapsco 55B.  *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

Beeman Cemetery – 3599 Osage Circle, Dallas (DCAD Address 2440 Pepper St., Dallas.)  E. of Dolphin Rd., S. of Mingo, Gault St. to Osage Cir., gate at end of Osage Cir. right of way.  Northern property line abuts back of Lots 8 – 12 on Mingo while southern property lines abut Shearith Israel Park Cemetery on three sides. Maintained by Park Department.  Deed for 639 & 97/100 acres, Wm. T. Sadler, Extr. Bennett Family Cemetery – 12649 Lake June Rd., Mesquite, Texas. East of 635 LBJ Freeway within active Laurel Oaks Memorial Cemetery. Laurel Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park maintains. Started on the farm of William Hardy Bennett and Sydney Manning Bennett in 1847 with the burial of their daughter Terniece C. Bennett. The beautiful hilltop view of the 1800s can be imagined while standing at the family’s graves. See also Laurel Oaks Memorial Park.

(Historic) Bethel Cemetery – 603 Christi Circle, Coppell.  (Approx. 4 mi. south Denton County Line.)  Landmark.  Maintained by neighbors; DCAD Owner:  Historic Bethel Cemetery Association, 709 S. Blewett Cemetery – a/k/a Spring Creek Cemetery, 499 E. Arapaho Rd., Richardson.  East of US Hwy 75, approx ¼ mi. east of Greenville Ave. N.  (Landmark Status)  Maintained by Richardson Park Department.  Established by Presbyterian Churches.  On Mapsco – Mapsco 7Y.   *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

Bowles Family Cemetery – 810 MacArthur Blvd. or 2905 Johnson St., Grand Prairie.  Bowles Family Section within active Jordan Hight Cemetery.   Jordan Hight Cemetery and Bowles Park on Mapsco 41B.W  *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

Brickyard Cemetery – 400 Peachtree Rd., Mesquite.  East of 400 Peachtree Rd., south of and adjacent to UP Rail Road.  Cemetery land set aside by Ferris Brick Company for workers, no stones left.  Only maintenance noted by Frances was when the rail road right-of-way was maintained and some brush was cleared.  Monument made possible by City of Mesquite, NAACP & local historians.  Not on Mapsco – Mapso 49A.N  Historic African American school once located there; said to be east of what is now IH 635 LBJ Freeway between Military Parkway and Scyene Rd.         *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

Brookhaven Cemetery – see also McAdams Cemetery. a/k/a McAdams Cemetery – West  of IH35E, south of intersection with W. Buckner Cemeteries – There were three sites on land that was part of Buckner Orphans Home’s many acres.  1)   7116 Canyon Ridge Dr., Dallas – Mapsco 48K, 2) 5201 Catron Dr., Dallas.  South of Samuel Blvd.– Mapsco 48M.  These two are maintained by Buckner Baptist Alumni Assoc., 3) A cemetery that was at northeast corner of Buckner Blvd. and Samuell Blvd., Mesquite has been eradicated and land developed.  Mapsco 48G  [Buckner Alumni members told Frances that they saw burials in the location. Buckner spokesperson told Frances the bodies were moved to Restland Cemetery, but Restland had no information.  Also, there was a story that it was only a memorial garden in honor of those whose names were on the markers.  Frances saw these cemeteries when looking for land to build her house on St. Francis Ave.]          *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

Bullock Cemetery – 151 Washington Ct., Coppell.  On eastern property line side residential lot west of Denton Tap Rd., north of Bethel School Rd.  DCAD: 331 Denton Tap Rd.; Edward A. Crow Abst. 301, Pg 350,Tr. 3.5, 0.245 Ac.; DCDR Vol. 96234/0280, 11/27/1996.  Maintenance said to be by Historic Bullock Cemetery Assoc., 709 S. Butler Nelson Cemetery – a/k/a Woodland Cemetery, Hill Grove Cemetery, Hillside Cemetery – (Woodland Cemetery and Hill Grove Cemetery combined and renamed) – 2900 Elsie Fay Higgins (Hatcher St.), Dallas.  Abuts Lincoln High School in Lagow League in Section deeded to Silas Lagow, City Blk 4438, 4439 & 4440.  “Nelson Park” on Mapsco.  Mapsco 46Z & 56D {Note: In 2018, on physical sign “Pinkston Cemetery,” while on 2000 Mapsco, “Woodland Cemetery” by r/r tracks.  Also, see Glen Oaks Cemetery, Pinkston Cemetery} City of Dallas Ordinance No. 27270:  “Blocks 4438 and 4439 at the southwest corner of Hatcher Street and Cason Street, and containing 15.25 acres.” Park Department maintains. *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

Cameron/Camron Cemetery (2 spellings on headstones) – Dallas.  Was south of Illinois Ave. W. and Loop 12 SE side.  Highway dept. alerted proper people that bodies needed to be moved.  Note in file: “Bodies moved to back row Pleasant Mound.  Four lots donated by Gill.”  Not listed on Mapsco – Mapsco 52W              *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

Carrollton Black Cemetery – 1519 W. Belt Line Rd., Carrollton.  Behind (current 2018) Romco Equipment Co.. West on Belt Line Rd., pass under IH 35E.  Left on Hutton Dr., 1000 feet east of Hutton and 600 feet south of Belt Line in shadow of freeway.  Was fenced but not mowed with 3 historical markers in place.  Not on Mapsco.- Mapsco 12B [32.950582, -96.920025]

Cathedral of Hope Columbarium – 5910 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas, Texas

Chiesa Cemetery/Rowlett Cemetery – 4600 Chiesa Rd. at Lindsey Dr., Rowlett.  South of St. Hwy 66.  Surrounded on 3 sides by residences with no fence along Chiesa Rd. and no sign.  On Mapsco – Mapsco 30A.D        *Dallas Municipal Archives has Frances James file.

City Cemetery 1 (No longer in existence) – Under convention center, Dallas.  The first City (Dallas) Cemetery adjacent to Masonic and International Organization of Oddfellows Cemeteries in downtown Dallas.  Lots purchased by early Dallas residents. Crawford’s Tornado Graveyard – 700 N. From Frances’ file: Wanda Pitt did research.  Brenda Ray wrote much about that end of town.  “In the southwest corner of Dallas County….the bodies of the victims of the tornado were buried quickly on land Robert Crawford offered for a burial place….on the Zur Combs Survey No. 306.”

Crestview Cemetery (African American) and Horton Cemetery – Can been seen on property north of 1288 N. Bagley St., Dallas.  North of W. Davis St., south of I 30.  Historical Marker is(was) at 1500 S. Walton Walker Blvd. This would be a good entry point with permission from owner. Floyd-Taylor Cemetery – On private property near Lancaster-Dallas boundary.  Approx. 1,400 feet east of N. Dallas Ave. (St Hwy 342), Lancaster. Affidavit of Peaceable Possession, DCDR Inst. No. 2004210/00087, filed 10/29/2004.  Maintained by descendants. Findagrave comments: The Cemetery is in the Smith-Elkins Survey, adjacent to the George Floyd Survey line in southeast Dallas. Garvin Memorial Cemetery/Smith Hall Cemetery – 4400 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas.  Walk in entrance on Northwest Hwy.  From the number of reported burial here the cemetery was much larger than presently shown (2018). Area surrounding visible markers was owned by El Paso Chlsea, LTD and is not considered to be a cemetery on the tax roll.  Area with visible stones was owned by Friends of the Military.  See Cemetery owned by Frank Finn that is the size of a single grave with DCAD legal description: G. H. Kelsoe, Blk A/5077, Lt 1.1 Acs. 0.003, Cemetery; Address 4000 W. Northwest Hwy; Acc. No. 005077000A0010100.  This and surrounding land City Landmark Status. Holy Communion Church Columbarium – 17405 Muirfield Drive, Dallas, Texas

Honey Springs Cemetery – a/k/a Bulova Cemetery/Homecoming Cemetery – 4000 Bulova St., Dallas (entrance).  Bulova St. and Cotton Lane, East of UP Rail Road, West of IH45, North of Illinois Ave.  Few visible tombstones.  Entry was has plaque listing 57 people buried. African Americans who lived in Joppa recorded that they buried there. Housley Cemetery – 401 Oaks Trail, Garland.  South side IH 30, near Lyons Road at Bob Town Rd., Oaks Trail at Wise Ln.  West Graves and Myers Graves are located inside two masonry wall enclosures (on separate sides of the street) built by a descendant. When the developer’s bulldozer finished, these few graves were all that was left of this cemetery. Not on Mapsco – Mapsco 40G.

White Rock Cemetery Garden of Memories – GPS Coordinates [32.9448, -96.8079] Historical gem and an invaluable community asset. A part of the Upper White Rock freedman community, the cemetery was established over 170 years ago. White Rock Cemetery Garden of Memories was designated a Texas Historic Cemetery (DL-C024) in 2020 and is believed to be the first integrated cemetery in Texas.  Final resting place of many of Dallas’ prominent African-American families, including Anderson Bonner (owned around 3000 acres of land), George Coit (Coit Road), Henry Keller (Keller Springs Road), Dr. L.G. Pinkston (Pinkston High School, DISD), and Taylor Tarpley (White Rock Chapel).
