Beeman Memorial Cemetery Outing

Saturday, January 16, 2021, a group of folks met at the Beeman Memorial Cemetery. The weather was a bit cool but otherwise perfect. The location was easy to find and at various times, there were between one and two dozen people in attendance. Several of them were Beeman descendants and were able to tell us a lot about where the original Beeman structures were likely located. The area sits on a hill, about 450 feet above sea level and would have provided a pleasant view of the surrounding property before the brush and wild trees grew up. Some of the Beeman descendants are pictured in the second image on the top row: M. C. Troyer, Justin Williamson, John Hampton, Marsha Leach, Marla Daniels.

The infant headstone in the last image is for Viola B. Cumby. She was the daughter of Eustace and Amanda Cumby and the granddaughter of William H. and Elizabeth Beeman Bryan Cumby. Viola was born in January, 1888 and died in July 1889.

No doubt there may be many older graves, but the oldest standing headstone we saw was that of John Beeman, born in 1799 and died in March, 1856. It is pictured in the next to last image in the above group.

Our next outing will be at the McKinney Cemetery on February 20, 2021.

The pictures are wonderful. I am so glad to see so many cousin’s out on a beautiful sunny day. I really enjoyed going last year. I hated to miss it! Samuel Harter Cumby nee Bryan was my Great Grandfather. My Great Great Grandparent’s were Elizabeth Beeman and James Bracken Bryan.

Georgeanne – I was really glad to meet you and your husband last January. I love to talk to descendants of the pioneer families. The Beeman descendants gathering at the Beeman Cemetery is special. Marsha Leach is planning a day to clean up some brush that is taking over part of the cemetery. She will let us know when plans are finalized. We can always use some observers and workers.
