Robert Ray was born in South Carolina in 1805. He married Mary Denton who was born in 1799 in Kentucky. They were probably married in Illinois in 1822 or 1823 as all their children were born in Illinois.
Robert and his family came to Dallas with Peters Colony and were issued a certificate for land in 1850. Three hundred and twenty acres were patented in Dallas County and the remaining portion in Tarrant County.
Robert was a blacksmith by trade.
The children of Robert and Mary Denton Ray and their spouses were: Susan married Andrew T. Nanny; Mary married Benj. F. Andrews; William married Lucinda Hart; Elizabeth married Abraham Hart; Rebecca married John H. Daniel; Nancy married Timothy Caldwell; Jane married Joseph Lockett; Robert (twin) married Emmaline McCommas; Samuel (twin) married White and Martha married James Kinchlow.
Mary Denton Ray died in 1877, and Robert Ray died in 1883.
