Otto Carl Meissner was born on April 7, 1863 on the family farm in the New Bremen Community, located some 4 miles west of Cat Springs, Austin County, Texas. His father, Otto Ferdinand Meissner, was enlisted in Company D, 2nd Infantry Battalion, Waul’s Texas Legion. In 1862, he was ill and permitted to return home; but as the fighting worsened, soldiers came to get him to return, even though he was still ill. His unit was moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi. While en route there, he died in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Otto Carl was born five months after the death of his father.
Otto worked on the family farm and attended school in the Dallas County area. He came to the City of Dallas about the year 1875 or 1876. As a young man, he went to work for Sanger Bros. about the time Philip Sanger opened the Dallas store. Otto continued to work at Sanger Bros. for the rest of his life.
Otto Meissner married Louise Plaschell December 13, 1889 in Dallas. She was born in Austria-Hungary January 6, 1867.
Otto Carl Meissner died February 3, 1934. One of the daughters of Otto and Louise Meissner was Julia, who married Herman H. Buhrer (son of Jacob and Anna Buhrer) March 4, 1916, in Dallas, Texas. Their only child was Louise E. Buhrer.
