From Proud Heritage, Vol. 1 by DCPA, not currently in print

Eva Green Crosby born 1 September 1872, died 22 December 1937, daughter of James Wm. Crosby and Mary Texana Hollingsworth Crosby; married 27 April 1890 Caleb William Jackson born 4 June 1866, died 1949. Both are buried at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.

Eva and Caleb lived on the farm where Caleb was born and which is now part of Richland College. Caleb inherited the land from his father James E. Jackson, who came to Texas with the Peters Colony in 1846.

Being farmers they took great pride in having registered hogs and cows. There was always a large garden to provide vegetables for canning. The first canning process used sealed cans in a pressure cooker. Later they canned in glass jars in the pressure cooker, providing food for all the family. Eva made sure that each of the married children had canned vegetables for their families. She loved to cook and bake, having her own special recipe for salt rising bread.

Quilting Bees were often held in their home so they could help one another with quilting.

Caleb was on the school board in 1908 for the Jackson School that was located at the crossroads of Audelia and Forest Lane. Will T. Sharp also was on the board with him. The teachers usually boarded with families in the community and their teaching contract was for $50 a month.
