Organizational Meeting of Dallas County Pioneers

Pioneers of Dallas County.

On Tuesday the 13th day of July, 1875, in pursuance to a previous call the pioneers of Dallas county met at the Court house, in the city of Dallas, for the purpose of organizing a Pioneer Association.

On motion of Dr. A. M. Cochran, Captain W. H. Witt was called to act as President. Isaac B. Webb was elected Vice President, and M. V. Cole Secretary.

Dr. A. M. Cochran was called on to explain the objects of the meeting after which W. H. Witt, Isaac B. Webb, George Glover, W. H. Hord, Captain R. A. Rawlins, John H. Cochran, W. M. Moore, W. P. Cochran and Parson Baldridge were called on for speeches when the following gentlemen responded: Hon. Jobn H. Cochran, W. P. Cochran and Parson Baldridge, who amused the meeting by reminding us of the old times in settling Dallas county.

John Henry Brown was then introduced by Dr. A. M. Cochran who went on to give a general statement why such an organization would be great source of pleasure to ourselves as well as to our descendants.

Dr. A. M. Cochran then presented a constitution, which was read and adopted.

It is agreed that a meeting occur on the 13th of July each year, provided it does not occur on a Sunday, and if so, on Saturday preceding. It is agreed that the next annual meeting be held at Hutchins, on the 13th day of July, 1876. It is ordered that we meet at Colonel J. M. Crockett’s Spring the last Saturday in October next.

It is further ordered that the Constitution be amended as to authorize the Secretary to employ three or more assistants. A motion was made that the newspapers of Dallas county publish the proceedings of this meeting.

A motion was made to adjourn until the last Saturday in October.
