Join us for a special presentation by DCPA member and historian Deb Cornelius, as she shares captivating stories from her new book, Rivers and Destinies.
You’ll hear about Captain Mabel Gilbert, one of Dallas’s earliest settlers, who braved the wilds of 1842 with his family, floating 22 miles down the Trinity River from Bird’s Fort (now Arlington) to John Neely Bryan’s brand-new townsite—on a handmade raft! His wife, Charity Gilbert, became the first woman in Dallas, and their son, James, holds the title of first baby born in the city. Through hardships and hope, the Gilbert family helped shape the future of Dallas — and Deb’s storytelling brings it all to life in a way that’s both educational and inspiring.Don’t miss this journey into the roots of our city!
