Fall Tour of Irving Cemeteries

The tour will begin at 9:30 AM sharp at Kit Cemetery, 1413 E. Irving Blvd, Irving, Texas 75060. The closest entrance and parking for Kit cemetery is behind The Net Church building on the north side of Irving Blvd and just east of Oak Grove cemetery.

Kit cemetery is in the southeast corner of Oak Grove cemetery, has a separate entrance and is separated by a North/South wall from Oak Grove. Another option is to drive into Oak Grove cemetery and then curve around to the SE and enter Kit cemetery from the north.

We will spend 20-30 minutes at Kit cemetery.

The next stop will be Sowers Cemetery 3101 W. Pioneer Dr, Irving, Texas 75061. From Kit, travel west on Irving Blvd. turning left, west, onto Pioneer Dr. Sowers will be on the right. There is a main drive-in entrance with parking at the far north side of the cemetery. You can also park on the west side of the cemetery at the Irving ISD property and then enter the pedestrian entrance facing Pioneer Dr.

We will spend 30-45 minutes at Sowers cemetery.

Next stop will be Shady Oak Cemetery at 800 Compton Ave. From Sowers cemetery travel west on Pioneer Dr. Turn left, south onto Compton Rd. Shady Oak cemetery is at the northwest corner of Compton and Conflans Rd. There is limited parking but you can pull into the main drive-in entrance off Compton and then park immediately to the left or right of the driveway in the grassy area. It would probably be ok to park on Compton directly in front of the cemetery.

We will spend 20-30 minutes at Compton Cemetery.

The last stop will be Tompkins Cemetery which is between Hwy 183/Airport Fry and the service road on the south side of 183. It is in the southwest quadrant of Hwy 183 and Valley View Lane. From Compton cemetery travel east on Conflans to Gilbert and turn right, south on Gilbert. Turn right, west onto W. Rock Island Rd. Turn right, north on Valley View Lane. Just before 183 turn left, west into the parking area of the Hilton Inn and the Quality Inn and park at WhatABurger restaurant. We will walk across the service road to Tompkins.

We can end the tour with lunch at WhatABurger.
