When the Native Tribes were late arriving for the Treaty at Birds Fort and there were concerns about security and drought induced stagnant water, Sam Houston and his entourage moved here, but when they still were delayed he returned to the capital leaving his commissioners George Terrell and Edward Tarrant to conduct the negotiations. When the Tribes finally arrived with most members and many horses the negotiations were moved again to the Elm Fork bottoms for more camp space and grazing,
