Goforth Historical Marker Dedication

Goforth Historical Marker Dedication

The pioneer Goforth family are being recognized with a new historical marker at the site of their family homestead on April 13th at 10:00 a.m. The marker will be placed at the picnic pavilion at Flag Pole Hill where the farmhouse once stood. Samuel Churchwell Goforth (who went by the nickname Church) owned and farmed all the land where Flag Pole Hill sits just north of White Rock Lake.

Flag Pole Hill is a 107.1 acre metropolitan park, established in 1929. This park is complete with a covered pavilion that was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930’s, a one of a kind all inclusive playground, a walking trail, and lots of green space for outdoor activities.

Join Kathy Stewart, Dallas City Council District 10, and Scott Goldstein, Dallas Park and Recreation Board District 10, for this historical community event. Meet the descendants of Samuel Churchwell Goforth, better known as Church Goforth, original landowner of more than 460 acres acquired by the City of Dallas for the northern area of White Rock Lake including the land now known as Flag Pole Hill. Refreshments will be served.
