Joseph Sales Strother and Emily McCullough Strother

Some of the descendants of Emily and Joseph Sales Strother have continued through several generations to make significant contributions to the Dallas Community.

Emily Strother (1840-1929) was the daughter of Daniel McCullough (1801-1874), who came to Dallas County in 1862 from Hill County, Texas. Joseph Sales Strother was a member of the state legislature for several sessions in the late 1800s.

Emily and Joseph S. Strother had six children, three sons. William Kemp Strother was a teacher, Archie Oscar Strother was a lawyer and lived in Ballinger where he was County Judge. Dr. Edwin Bower Strother was a physician in Dallas for many years.

William Kemp Strother, Sr. had three sons and a daughter. Two sons were physicians: Dr. Coble Strother made his home in Sherman, Texas and Dr. William Kemp Strother, Jr. was a popular and successful doctor in Dallas. Dr. Joseph Sales Strother is a Methodist minister, recently assistant minister at Highland Park Methodist Church and now retired.

Dr. William Kemp Strother, Jr. has a son, Dr. William Kemp Strother, 2nd and a grandson Dr. William Kemp Strother the 3rd, who at the time this article is being written are members of the Dallas medical community.

Martha Duke Strother is the daughter of William Kemp Strother Sr. and was for years a teacher in Highland Park and is now retired.
