William Carroll Rogers was born May 26, 1819 in Tennessee. While still a young man, he and his family moved to Missouri and settled near Springfield. It is probable that his parents later settled in northwestern Arkansas since the town of Rogers is named for this family. He was reared to farm life and on April 6, 1841 married Matilda Baker in Polk County, Missouri. Matilda was born May 5, 1823 in North Carolina, and while she was still a child her family moved to Missouri and settled near Springfield. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, at the age of 16. William Carroll and Matilda settled in Polk County, Missouri where all their children, four sons and six daughters, were born.

They had two sons and three daughters: Mary Matilda, Robert E. Lee, Perdita, Olena Marzee, and William, all born in Dallas County, Texas.
Joseph Lafayette born August 31, 1844, died December 26, 1867 in Dallas County, Texas.
Stephen Baker born November 13, 1846, died November 4, 1851 in Polk County, Missouri.
Matilda Jane (twin sister of Stephen) born November 13, 1846, died October 12, 1856 in Polk County, Missouri.
William Bedford born November 5, 1850, died October 15, 1921 in Dallas County, Texas; married December 7, 1871 in Dallas County, Texas to Mary McAdams.
Celia America born November 14, 1852, died October 3, 1856 in Polk County, Missouri.
Martha Malissa born November 24, 1854, died August 28, 1907, married March 5, 1874 in Dallas County, Texas to Samuel Hollar.
Nancy Marina born March 10, 1857, died January 24, 1948 in Dallas County, Texas, buried in Five Mile Cemtery, Dallas, Texas; married April 18, 1877 in Dallas County, Texas to Thomas A. McAdams.
Jeanettie Marzee born August 2, 1859, died February 10, 1915 in Dallas County, Texas, buried in Five Mile Cemetery, Dallas, Texas; She never married.
Ulysses Sherman born August 10, 1861, died November 8, 1947 in Munday, Knox County, Texas, buried in Gillespie Cemetery, Munday, Texas; married June 29, 1892 in Dallas County, Texas to Hettie Josephine Seely, born December 30, 1871 in Gainesville, Mississippi, died March 29, 1962 in Munday, Texas, buried in Gillespie Cemetery, Munday, Texas. They were the parents of three sons and seven daughters: Margaret Matilda, Sadie May, Charles William Dorsey, Argie Marzie, Vera Fay, Joe Graves, Mary Josephine, Alice Lorene, Seely Vivian, and Sherman Herbert. Shortly after the Civil War, William Carroll, his wife Matilda, and their seven living children pulled up stakes and moved to Texas, locating in Dallas County on May 6, 1866. William Carroll Rogers died on August 10, 1882 in Dallas County, Texas, and his wife, Matilda, died on January 10, 1905 in Dallas County, Texas. They are both buried in the Five Mile Cemetery in the 3800 block of West Kiest Blvd., Dallas, Texas. Many of their descendants are still living in Dallas County.
