Samuel Lain/Lane and Texas Anna Prigmore Lain/Lane

From Proud Heritage, Volume I by DCPA, not currently in print.

Samuel was born 3 October 1861, in Tennessee, probably Sumner County where his grandfather John Ashley Reddick and his mother Mary A. Reddick Lain/Lane were born. He died 16 September 1939 and was buried in the Eastview Cemetery, Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas.

The names Lain and Lane were both used by generations of more than one family. Early reports were that Lane was the correct spelling; however, Samuel chose to use Lain.

Samuel came to Dallas County at the age of 18. It is believed he came with father Lee Thomas Lain and brother Lester C. (Jack) in 1879. They were followed by his mother, Mary A. Reddick Lain, and daughters Sophia, Dora, Eva and Fannie, who came on the train. They rented a farm on the lands presently owned and occupied by the Presbyterian Hospital, which purchased the tract from the Reynolds Orphans Home. The orphanage had moved to Dallas in 1923 having purchased the land from Reagen T. Wofford. The orphanage is now located in Waxahachie, Texas. Later the Lain family occupied a farm home on what is now Forest Lane, later moving to farm houses on Plano Road and on Audelia Road.

Samuel was the son of L. (Lee) T. (Thomas) Lain (date of birth and death unknown – probably buried on family farm in Dallas County) and Mary A.
