Frederick A. Lee Hastings was born May 17, 1875 in Dallas County to John and Rachael Hastings on a farm that is now know as Winona Gardens Addition of Duncanville. Mary Claude Hustead was born August 16, 1885 in what is now known as the Red Bird Addition on Frank Keasler Blvd. to Frank and Lucinda Hustead. Fred Hastings was married to Claude Hustead February 29, 1912, at home. They lived on the corner of what is now known as Hastings and Cherry, Duncanville. All three of their children were born there. Horace Frederick was born February 4, 1913 and died May 10, 1931. First Lt. William Lee was born October 21, 1918 and graduated from Duncanville High School in 1936. He graduated from A & M University in 1940. He died in World War II in Cherburg, France on June 22, 1944 in the invasion of Normandy. The William Lee Hasting School was named in memory of him.
Lilliam Loraine Hastings was born April 5, She graduated from Duncanville in 1937 and married Marcus Maurice Harrington December 16, 1939. He was born May 16, 1917 in Cedar Hill and was one of eleven children. Marcus served the city of Duncanville in various capacities including City Manager for 33 years. Marcus passed away December 23, 1984.
Their children are: 1) Frederick Allan born May 7, 1941, married June 22, 1963 to Olivia Ann Burton born December 2, 1942. She is the daughter of Ruth Pierce and Cecil Burton of Waxahachie. Their children are Angela Kae born November 5, 1964 and Teenya Elizabeth born April 2, 1968. 2) Anna Kay born November 29, 1942, married August 2, 1963 to Donald Lloyd Maples born October 26, 1942, son of Charles and Lola Maples. Their children are Billy Don born May 12, 1964, Donna Kay born September 27, 1967, Michael Lynn born May 12, 1971 and Marc Allan born May 30, 1972. 3) Wayne Lee born March 11, 1946. 4) Warren Maurice born September 5, 1949, married June 9, 1972 to Deborah Ann Cochran born January 15, 1952, daughter of Bill and Joann Ledbetter Cochran. Their children are Andrew Lee born November 8, 1980 and Logan Hastings born September 9, 1984. 5) Dennis Dale born November 24, 1953.
Fred Hastings farmed on the land which is now West Park and Merribrook from the railroad to Cedar Ridge in Duncanville. At one time Union Hall was located on the land that was called the “Pen” where they had church and school. He bought and sold cattle around the Dallas area, and he took cattle to Fort Worth to the stock yards.
Fred died March 8, 1967 at Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Dallas. Claude died February 13, 1942 at home.
