Henson Cole Davis (21 May 1802 – Oct. 1877) was the son of John Davis and wife Elizabeth Cole. Phebe Cunningham was the second wife of John. Henson married 4 April 1826 Sarah Parrish (2 March 1801 – 4 June 1867). Henson and Sarah both are buried in McCree Cemetery of Dallas County. She was the daughter of Richard Parrish, who left Monongalia County Virginia 1835 and went to LaPorte, Indiana.
The family arrived in Texas in 1846. He was a farmer; and upon arriving in Texas he settled in Peters Colony, obtaining Nacogdoches Third Class Certificate number 2198 for 640 acres. One of his sons, Benjamin T., was issued Certificate number 2203 for 320 acres as he was a single man. John W., a second son, was issued Certificate number 2202 for 320 acres as he was also a single man. There were nine children in the Davis family:
1) John Wesley Davis born 23 December 1826, died 14 June 1919. Married 26 June 1855 Jeanette Chenault born 1839, died 1826; she was the daughter of Wesley Chenault. 2) Benjamin Titus Davis born 17 September 1828, died 18 August 1903. Married 4 July 1854 Lydia Jane Mills born 7 April 1837, died 14 October 1890. 3) Diana Jane Davis born 14 February 1831, died 20 Nov. 1908. Married 10 January 1850 James E. Jackson born 1 April 1826, died 16 December 1903. 4) Polly E. Davis born 14 January 1833, date of death unknown. Married 8 August 1850 to Jacob Miller of Indiana. 5) Maria E. Davis born 21 September 1834, date of death unknown; married 21 May 1857 John Little. 6) Sally Ann P. Davis born 15 August 1837, date of death unknown; 1st married 22 March 1855 Benjamin Crownover, married second 15 December 1867 John C. Tucker. 7) Nancy C. Davis born 13 May 1839, died 13 October 8) James M. Davis born 6 November 1842, date of death unknown; married 28 March 1874 Kate Norman. 9) Mary Ann Davis born 12 November 1845, died 20 April 1939 buried McCree Cemetery, Dallas County; 1st married 4 September 1870 Samuel Whitlock. married second 1871 C. Naylor.
