Join the Dallas County Pioneer Assoc. and Preservation Dallas for an In-Town outing to the Historic Frankford Church and Cemetery.
Built in 1896, this was the former place of worship for the many people who lived in the small farming community of Frankford. However, numerous families moved away when the train came to nearby Addison, leaving the Frankfort community all but deserted except for this church and cemetery.
This 127 year old church building sits on Bois-D’Arc stumps which have been the foundation for these many years and are the original supports. The interior is constructed of Cyprus and longleaf pine with no knots in cedar beams underneath. The entire interior (windows, beams, pews, railing, etc.) was finished at a cost of $377.
The cemetery and surrounding grasslands are virgin Blackland Prairie that has never been turned by a plow. A rare remnant of the Blackland Prairie once indigenous to the North Texas area. This along with an Indian Spring-fed creek make this an unbelievable rarity in the area!
$10 General admission tickets can be purchased here.
