Walter M. Clower was born in Millican, Texas in 1870. In the late 1870’s his father, Daniel Morgan Clower, moved the family to Dallas to be close to his work. Daniel was working for Bell Telephone building the lines as the railroad came to Dallas.
Walter married Jennie Mcilhenny October 5, For many years he was an electrical contractor in Dallas providing much of the electrical work in the early Dallas buildings.
Jennie Mcilhenny was born April 24, 1874 in the Crutchfield House, an early Dallas hotel. Her parents, Samuel E. and Ruth McIlhenny had come from Indiana in 1870. Samuel was unable to find a place to live because he was a Yankee, therefore he purchased the Crutchfield. For many years Samuel McIlhenny operated hotels in Dallas and other towns in Texas. Later he became manager of the “old” Oriental Hotel at Commerce and Akard Streets.
Walter M. Clower died March, 1953. Jennie died four years later on December 23, 1957.
