“BECOMING GARLAND AVENUE—2020 REVIVAL” POSTPONED UNTIL FALL; NEW DATES ANNOUNCED SOON
With Garland city council determining last night that all city entertainment venues, including the Plaza Theatre, are shut down through at least May 9 due to health concerns, the long-planned musical drama, “Becoming Garland Avenue—2020 Revival”, has been postponed until the fall.
New dates will be announced in the very near future.
Like numerous other groups that are rescheduling spring events, the sponsors of this outstanding drama are highly disappointed to not be able to keep the planned performance dates of April 18-19, just about a month away.
Cast members have been practicing diligently to bring this memorable production to the community for another inspiring year. High-energy rehearsals have been extraordinary; momentum was building, ticket sales have been brisk.
However, being responsible to current health concerns for both the performers and the play’s potential audience is paramount. Pushing this performance out for several months will hopefully see brighter, healthier days when people will be thrilled to gather once again at entertainment venues.
People that have already bought tickets to “Becoming Garland Avenue–2020 Revival” may simply keep them; they will automatically transfer to the new dates; no need to contact the box office. The city has waived all penalties for exchanges. Certainly refunds will be granted without fee, but some people may choose to simply turn their tickets back to the sponsoring nonprofit, Friends of Garland’s Historic Magic 11th Street, as a donation.
Once rehearsals can safely resume, the play’s leadership is committed to taking up preparations again without a break in stride.
